Empowering independence in old age - supporting with digital solutions

The Vincenzhaus in Oberhausen looks back on a history of over 100 years in the Christian tradition of the Arenberg Dominican Sisters. In 2011, the current new building was constructed in the former park of the old Vincenzhaus according to the latest architectural and nursing science standards.

In 10 shared living communities, each with a large communal kitchen and cozy living room, 118 people live together like a family. The communal spaces encourage interaction and provide room for group activities.

Networking existing structures

At Vincenzhaus, the independence and self-determination of the residents are of great importance. The goal is to enable and maintain this for as long as possible. One building block for achieving this is the comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage throughout the facility and on the premises.

For this reason, Vincenzhaus decided in 2021 to expand the Wi-Fi connection for residents, visitors, and healthcare personnel.

The new demands of the residents during the COVID-19 pandemic were also crucial for the introduction of its own Wi-Fi network. Due to visitor restrictions, telephony and video calling became increasingly important for all parties involved. Additionally, many essential services were digitized, requiring access to apps and mobile services, both for the caregivers and the residents at Vincenzhaus.

Together with Telekom Deutschland, our goingsoft experts have established comprehensive Wi-Fi for residents and staff. Existing CAT cabling was utilized for this purpose.

Structural modifications in existing facilities are always a source of stress for all involved. Therefore, it is particularly important for a sensitive institution like a senior care home to find a gentle solution for upgrading to a high-performance Wi-Fi infrastructure.This is where goingsoft's CAT solution proves to be ideal. Without drilling or chiseling, the existing telephone cabling is used to equip each room with a Wi-Fi access point, providing high bandwidth. The installation in each room takes only a few minutes and thus imposes no burden on the residents.

Network management made easy

To manage the Wi-Fi network for the entire building, the internet management system netcontrol 365 by goingsoft was chosen. Its user-friendly and centrally operated interface allows for monitoring the entire network and controlling bandwidth.
