Vital Pflege
With digital solutions for more freedom in old age
The aim was to establish a contemporary internet connection capable of providing Wi-Fi coverage to all rooms, spaces, and the entire area of the day care facility.
The aim was to establish a contemporary internet connection capable of providing Wi-Fi coverage to all rooms, spaces, and the entire area of the day care facility.
The nursing service Vital was founded in 2008 by Karl-Heinz Gürtler with the aim of providing as much independence as possible to those in need of care. The Vital Care facility in Hardheim has grown over the years and now includes an assisted living area, the House Vital, and a senior day care center under the title Vital. The entire complex consists of a new building and an old building. The caregivers aim to offer residents a varied daily routine. Therefore, the entire team is always striving to find innovations and improvements that enhance the daily life of residents and caregivers.
Digitization offers numerous opportunities in this regard. The IT manager of Vital Care, Karl-Heinz Fiebig, is particularly ambitious when it comes to seeking and implementing new solutions, specifically tailored for care facilities.
In the assisted living area of Vital Care, consisting of an old and a new building, there was no internet connection for the residents in the past. Internet access was only available for staff operations. In the day care center, there was already the option of a Wi-Fi connection. However, the coverage range was relatively limited, and there was not sufficient network coverage everywhere.
Therefore, the management's wish was to establish a contemporary internet connection for both buildings, providing Wi-Fi coverage to all rooms, spaces, and the entire area of the day care center, ensuring optimal connectivity for both employees and residents. It was particularly important to create two separate networks, one for residents and visitors and one for the staff.
Even though one might think that our residents are not internet-savvy, they absolutely do not want to forgo the use of the internet. (Original quote in German)
Through Telekom Deutschland, the broadband connection for both buildings was realized to establish the foundation for fast internet. goingsoft provided the solution to equip the old building with Wi-Fi via existing TV cabling using COAX technology, without the need for structural modifications.
Our comprehensive networking laid the groundwork for numerous internet-based solutions from various manufacturers, such as digital patient records, intelligent emergency call systems (AAL and IoT applications), a completely VoIP-based telephone system, and more. For the residents, the foundation for internet usage, video calls, etc., was established in all parts of the Vital Care facilities.
With the HOTAINMENT mobile solution by goingsoft, it's possible to digitally provide all information about the care facility such as weekly programs, menus, etc. This ensures that residents, day visitors, and guests are always well-informed.
Through a customized solution by Telekom, a perfect offer for the residents was also created. Upon moving into Vital Care, residents receive a mobile phone on which they can either receive a new number or retain their home number. Video calling is particularly important and highly appreciated by the residents. Even aside from video calling, despite their age, residents are very active on the internet and do not want to forgo surfing the web under any circumstances.
Particular emphasis is placed on the network for employees, with the highest requirements for security and stability, as services such as an alarm button for Assisted Ambient Living run over this network.
Karl-Heinz Fiebig, responsible for IT & Digitalization at Vital Care, is particularly concerned with increasing the use of IoT and AAL solutions to provide residents with more security and more opportunities for independent living, while also supporting caregivers as effectively as possible.
For example, in some rooms, lights can already be controlled via smartphone or turn on via motion sensors when someone needs to use the bathroom at night. An alarm system also supports residents in living independently and is gradually being expanded. Some rooms already have fixed alarm buttons, mobile alarm buttons that can be carried in a pocket, and even voice-controlled alarm systems that respond when someone calls for help. The big advantage is that they can cover an entire living unit, and residents can call for help from any room.
From broadband networking, a powerful telephone system, mobile phones for residents with number portability, comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage, to digital information solutions, an extensive, high-performance package has been tailored for Vital Pflege. goingsoft and Telekom Deutschland have placed special emphasis on the unique needs of a care facility and have assembled an individualized package.
